Boiled Dinner has been being made by my family for years and I still love it and make it for my family. This is one of the simplest recipes you will ever see, as most of my recipes are. What you are going to need is: cabbage, sausage, carrots, red potatoes, onion, real butter, season salt, a crock pot and some water. I will give you the exact recipe that I use; however you can alter the brands and flavors of the ingredients to put a different twist on the receipt.
What you will need:
1 Head of cabbage
2 Packs of Hillshire Farms Spicy Sausage
1 Pack of baby carrots
10 Red potatoes
1 Stick of butter
A couple shakes of season salt
Quarter your cabbage up and put into your crockpot, next half the potatoes (depending on the size)- you want everything to be done at the same time. Add the entire package of the baby carrots and peel your onion (take off the brown skin) and half it. Now it is time to add the water, you are going to want to add enough water to cover all of your vegetables but you need to save room for when it is time to add your sausage. Now lets give it a little flavor by adding an entire stick of butter! Chop your butter into three or four sections and add it to your crock pot, then shake some season salt of top of all the ingredients. Set your timer (if you have one) four 8 hours on low; when there is about an hour left it is time to add your sausage- since the sausage is already cooked you really only have to add it for enough time to heat up but I like the spicy flavor to get into my cabbage and potatoes. Presto you have your entire dinner done!
